about us

The Centre for Separated Families is the national charity that works with everyone affected by family separation in order to bring about better outcomes for children.

Working from a child centred perspective, we recognise that mothers and fathers are equally important in their children's lives. We believe that the children who do best after family separation are those that have a strong and positive input from both parents.

We recognise that there are situations where one parent is left alone to provide everything that children need. However we also recognise that the division of parents into 'lone parent' and 'non resident parent' often creates barriers to relationships between children and both of their parents. As a result we do not use those terms and neither do we talk about 'care and contact', we prefer to concentrate upon helping parents to arrange their parenting time agreements.

We also help both mothers and fathers to deal with the changes and difficult transitions that separation brings in order that they can both remain involved. Our guidance services help both parents to identify their children’s needs and work out how each can contribute to them.

By supporting both parents to continue to provide a positive input into their children’s lives, we know it is possible to help parents to co-operate and support their children to adjust to life after family separation.
