New Action for Prisoners’ Families DVDs
Action for Prisoners' Families have produced two powerful short films highlighting the issues that are unique to prisoners' families. Both study the impact that prison and crime has on families and are suitable for training, awareness raising, mentoring, parenting, drug rehabilitation, probation or any other profession which comes into contact with the families of prisoners and offenders.
Family Business
Two monologues one spoken by Geoff who is serving a life sentence, and the other by his estranged son Nathan, who is about to be sentenced to custody for a violent
offence.
Missing Out
Tells of the effect of drugs and imprisonment on the family of a female prisoner and highlights the particular issues faced by women in prison, some of which have been addressed by the Corston
Report.
Both 15 minute films are based on plays written by Mary Cooper following extensive research with the families themselves. Both plays have toured male and female prisons, as well as community settings, and have formed part of effective and well-evaluated workshops. The DVD contains resources booklets with facilitation tips, exercises and activities. They cost £15 each and can be ordered from www.prisonersfamilies.org.uk
